Your experience begins from the pier where you will join you guide and board a Gastineau Guiding vehicle for an interpretive tour through Juneau’s historic downtown district. Have your camera ready as you find yourself surrounded by the towering mountains of the Perseverance valley as you make your way to the trail head. Hike like an Alaskan on this local favorite trail as your guide will lead you along Alaska’s first road, now a historically designated trail. You will hike deep into a secluded alpine valley and along a rushing mountain stream.

Experience cascading waterfalls, serene meadows and quiet forest glens–just a few of the treasured places that can be reached only on foot. Along the way, your naturalist guide will provide knowledge and perspective on both the region’s natural history and mining history too. During much of the hike the views are panoramic, encompassing expanses of glacier-carved wilderness. With old mining relics, tales of gold, and the brisk fresh air from the surrounding mountain peaks this half-day hike is assured to give you a better appreciation and understanding of Juneau both past and present. There are many opportunities for photography along the trail, as well as frequent interpretive stops.

*This is a strenuous hike and groups should be prepared to be on the trail for up to 6 hours. Guests must wear closed-toed and comfortable hiking shoes.
